Project Title: Understanding the physiological and pathological roles of neurodegeneration-linked TDP-43 phosphorylation

Summary: My research investigates how disease-linked TDP-43 phosphorylation regulates its physiological functions and contributes to pathology. Using a combination of in vitro and cellular approaches, I aim to determine whether phosphorylation of TDP-43 has site-specific roles in controlling its behavior. Particularly, I study how phosphorylation influences TDP-43 self-assembly across multiple length scales, from functional biomolecular condensates to pathological aggregates. I also aim to explore how phosphorylation reshapes the TDP-43 interactome and the functional consequences of these changes. Ultimately, my goal is to uncover how phosphorylation modulates TDP-43 function and dysfunction, providing mechanistic insights into the molecular events that underlie TDP-43 proteinopathies.
