SUMMARY:Workshop with Prof. Heather Hofmeister (Joint Event with GenEvo\, 4R\, SFB1361\, and SFB1551)
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to participate in a workshop with Prof. Heather Hofmeister entitled “Navigating challenging conversations within power hierarchies”. \nThis half-day workshop will focus on how to navigate “difficult” conversations and differences in understanding each other based on different gender\, cultural backgrounds\, and expectations and locations in the power hierarchy and will be specifically designed for PhD students & early postdoctoral researchers from 4R\, GenEvo\, SFB 1361\, and SFB 1551. \nThe workshop will be held on Thursday\, February 1st\, from 15:30 to 19:00\, followed by a pizza dinner. Please mark your calendars! Official registration for the workshop will follow in January. Participation will be credited with 2 hours (towards your IPP certificate). \nTo ensure that the workshop also addresses any more specific questions or requests\, please feel free to share them with us in advance using this link (anonymous).

SUMMARY:SFB 1551 Seminar Series Event - Prof. Dr. Andela Saric
DESCRIPTION:Talk announcement for Prof. Dr. Andela Saric. \n\n“Protein assemblies that split and merge cells across evolution” \nBy Prof. Dr. Andela Saric \nInstitute of Science and Technology Austria \nAbstract from Prof. Saric: \nI will present our recent research on the computational modelling of energy-consuming protein filaments that dynamically reshape and cut cells across evolution. I will first discuss the physical mechanism of ESCRT-III filaments that drive cell division and cell trafficking in archaea and eukaryotes. I will then discuss the physical mechanism behind the dynamic self-organisation of biochemically active FtsZ filaments in the early stages of bacterial division. Throughout\, I will present the comparisons of our models to in vitro and in vivo data. I will finish up with our recent thoughts on the shapes of symbiotic organisms that might have led to the emergence of eukaryotes.
