After recently joining the SFB1551 as fully funded member, Carla Schmidt (JGU) has just opened a PhD position within project R15 entitled “Unraveling multivalent interactions in the pre-synapse”.
The group of Carla Schmidt is part of the Department of Chemistry – Biochemistry of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The group is working on the structural and functional analysis of membrane proteins and their complexes by mass spectrometry and other techniques (visit https://carlaschmidt-lab.uni-mainz.de/ for further information).
Your tasks:
Independent research in the context of project R15
Mass spectrometric sample preparation and analysis of proteins and protein interactions
Mass spectrometric data analysis
Protein purification
Performing biochemical experiments
Preparation of publications and presentations
Participation in CRC15 events (seminars, retreats, lectures etc.)
Your profile:
In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.
A successfully completed scientific university degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related field
Basic knowledge in analytical methods including chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry is desired
Sound knowledge in Biochemistry
Good computer skills including MS-Office
Experiences in presenting results are advantageous
Profound communication skills in English are required for preparation of scientific publications and presentations at scientific meetings
High motivation and commitment
Interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative research

The position is paid according to EG 13 TV-L and is limited to a period of three years.
